Mechanical belt tensioning units

Mechanical belt tensioning units represent an optimum cost solution for automatically tensioned multiribbed belt drives. The belt preload force required is generated by the torque of a leg spring as well as the lever arm and the tension pulley. The damping assembly, consisting of the friction disc and friction lining, is preloaded by the axial force of the spring. When the lever arm moves, it causes a relative movement in the damping assembly and thereby generates friction and thus damping. The belt preload force (via the torque of the spring) and damping (via the axial force of the spring) are tuned independently of each other to the application. Due to the materials used, high and consistent damping values irrespective of temperature and frequency as well as minimal running-in effects can be achieved

The two different designs allow optimum utilisation of the available design envelope.

The tension pulleys fitted consist of single or double row ball bearings developed specially by INA for belt drive applications with, depending on the application, pulleys made from glass fibre-reinforced polyamide or corrosion-resistant steel.

The pulleys made from polyamide resistant to high temperatures are, due to the highly developed tooling and production technology, equal in terms of roundness and running characteristics to the steel pulleys used as an alternative.
